I was introduced to property at a young age as we had ‘back rooms’ at home and my introduction to ‘adulting’ when I had to rent my own flat in Muckleneuk, pretoria when I started working. After renting for one year I did the Maths and realised just how much money I had paid to someone else’s bond and I realised that this did not make financial sense for me. I started looking for my own property to purchase, which I purchased when I was 23 years old. It was a 2 bedroom flat in Midrand.
This was how I entered the property investment space as at some point I rented out the one bedroom and stayed in the other which helped me with cashflow. Subsequent to that I refinanced that property and I used those funds for the acquisition of my next property which was a one bedroom flat. I realised the benefit of property and acquired a few more investment properties after that.
I was attracted to the concept of Stokvels when I realised that we could combine the great wealth creation benefits of property and that if we did this as a collective we could access opportunities that would not be accessible to individuals. That is what lead me to collaborate with some friends to start a ladies only property stokvel. That experience taught me a lot about how to be a proffessional investor and opned a lot of opportunities and access to networks that I never had before. The lessons that I learnt from that initiative, lead me to the journey I have embarked on with Stokvels.
In 2018, I completed my MBA which was acquired at Wits Business School and Indiana University (USA), it was the catalyst that showed me that my financial freedom wold come from not only having a job but on building reliable, consistent passive income streams that would result in my financial freedom and one of the ways I would be able to achieve this is through property.
I am also the chairperson of Sakhisizwe Property Stokvel , one of South Africa’s fastest growing property stokvels, which enables peopele who were never able to invest in property themselves to gain access to property investments. Here, members invest in high yield properties and get paid monthly returns from those investments. I built the systems that enabled Sakhisizwe to raise over R4 million and an active membership of 150+ within the first 10 months of it’s existence and invested in various properties in South Africa’s major metros.
In 2019, I entered and won the SA Property Investor of the year award under the most innovative category. This competition had some of the best property investors that entered from all over the country and the theme for the competition was to inspire and encourage all South Africans to invest in property and I was selected as a winner amongst the hundreds that entered the competition.
I have also been featured in multiple media outlets such as eNCA, Sowetan, IOL Newspaper, Radio 702, Power FM, Property Magicians Podcast, Women of Many Hats Podcast, Stokvel Talk and Spotong newspaper. She has also collaborated with other organisations such as StokFella, the South African Property Investor’s Network and The Property Academy.
